finally made it to costco to have all my rolls of film developed. i had been sitting on a bunch for a while now and it kind of sucked because the one roll in particular i was anxious about didn't "turn out" for some reason. the guy said it was blank and i dont know really how that was possible. such are the drawbacks of film i guess. i'll have to pay better attention next time.

here are some shots i took walking around Ocean Beach a few weeks ago.

wow. i just got back from the best vacation. i spent a week driving around and seeing western Colorado and southern Utah. i am now firmly convinced that the Colorado Plateau is the most beautiful place on earth (or at least the united states).

went to a wedding in Crested Butte, stayed in Almont, hung out in Gunnison a bit, drove down the Million Dollar Highway through Ouray and Silverton, then proceeded to visit and hike around Arches and Zion National Parks. both of those were incredible, Zion especially. it pretty much blew my mind. i am now dying to go back as soon as possible and spend more time hiking there.

this is the hotel we stayed at in Zion. it was really nice and had great mountain views.

i have a bunch of other photos but they're on film and i need to get them developed.

also here is something i drew recently

it feels like i haven't drawn anything in forever. i need to get back on the ball with that.

oh yeah and wtf@death from above 1979 breaking up? i never even got a chance to see them live.

picked up these two polaroids for really cheap recently

the one on the left takes 88 film and the one on the right takes sx70, both of which arent made anymore apparently. i need to try and track them down somewhere besides ebay. its kind of expensive there.

also, random/weird celebrity sighting... i saw james woods at the swingers diner yesterday. it was kind of funny, i had just said "i wonder if he's as big of a dick in real life as he is in movies" and right at that moment he got up and started throwing a temper tantrum to the waiter complaining that they weren't serving him his coffee fast enough. if you had seen that episode of Entourage he was in, he acted the EXACT same way. had a blonde bimbo in tow and everything.

man i've been slacking on posting any art show photos lately. still been going to a bunch, too many to post actually.
here are some of the better ones from the past few days.

Glenn Barr @ Billy Shire Gallery, Culver City, CA

Yumiko Kayukawa @ La Luz de Jesus Gallery, Los Feliz, CA

Luke Chueh @ Copro Nason Gallery, Santa Monica, CA

Joe Ledbetter @ Gallery 1988, Hollywood, CA

also, my photographs will be featured on juxtapoz.com soon! so keep an eye out for that.

and speaking of juxtapoz, the new issue is going to be DOPE. so many of my good friends are prominently featured in it. blaine fontana is on the cover, LC and Cannibal Flower have a spread, thinkspace is the featured gallery. i'm really happy for all of those guys. they deserve all the recognition they get.

i bought another camera off ebay recently, the Konica Auto S2

$20! what a steal. i figured i needed a rangefinder to complement my slr,
which reminds me, i need to get my film developed.

also, my cat really really likes it when i leave empty boxes laying around

grindhouse [Jun. 19th, 2006|10:47 am]
[Current Music |Death From Abovbe 1979]

i love Los Angeles. i love the fact that a move theatre within walking distance from my house was playing a grindhouse feature of 'Cannibal Ferox' and Lucio Fulci's 'The Gates of Hell' (aka 'City of the Living Dead'). you just dont get that anymore.

i'm such an avid fan of late 70s/early 80s Italian gore/horror (gorror?) so i was really stoked when i saw they were playing these two. i hadn't seen either one before and they didn't dissapoint. they were super cheesy with super bad acting and even worse special effects but it was cool because everyone in the crowded theatre had the same twisted sense of humor as i do. we all laughed and applauded at the most grotesque and outlandish parts of the movie. for instance the scene in 'Gates of Hell' where a woman vomits up her intestines and her boyfriend gets his brains pulled out by a zombie received a standing ovation. i loved it.

also i saw this banksy stencil on the side of the theatre and it made me smile :)

Friday night went to the Thinkspace Gallery to see Lola and Chet Zar's opening. Their new plase in Silver Lake is soooo nice. Its twice as big as the last one and has great big sunlights for great natural lighting. I'm stoked for some of their upcoming shows too, one of which i will most likely curate.

this was part of the installation up front

collaboration between Chet Zar and Lola

wow, its like i never see this place anymore. i've been on the computer a lot but just so busy i havent had time to keep up with LJ as much as i like.

some things i've acquired recently i'm very happy about

a watercolor of Miles Davis painted by Ekundayo

also, i might be building Ekundayo's website soon. that will be fun.

aaaand... i now own every Talking Head album on vinyl
PLUS everything David Byrne has recorded with Brian Eno.
you could say i'm a little bit obsessive about the Talking Heads.
best band ever. no, i'm serious.

my cat seems to like them as well.

this is an illustration i've done for an upcoming children's book where each letter of the alphabet is represented by an animal. i got R so i chose Rhinoceros. it was a tough choice between that and raccoon.
